Android 52 percent faster than iOS

According to a research done by Blaze Software, Android 2.3 on the Nexus S loads webpages 52 percent faster than iOS on the iPhone 4. The difference in time is sometimes even more than 2 seconds. However, later this week it became clear that they used iPhone’s old javascript engine which make the results somewhat questionable.

A test with 1000 websites was done over wi-fi and 3G connections and showed that 84% of the time Android was not only faster in loading webpages but also managed to get a better internet signal from the same places.

Random reboot bug of the Google Nexus S soon to be history

Google has announced that it will be rolling out the Android 2.3.3 update through the usual Over The Air update process. This update will bring two major improvements to the Google Nexus S. The first is that it will enable the write capabilities of the NFC chip, effectively turning the Nexus S’ NFC feature into a two-way communications channel. But the most important improvement is that the update contains the fix to the random reboot bug that has been plaguing Nexus S owner until now. So if you’re a proud Nexus S owner that has been suffering from those strange unpredictable reboots, hold on: help is on the way!

Google Nexus S GT-i9023 available in March

The presumably truly ‘European’ Nexus S – the Samsung Google GT-i9023 – is expected to be available some time in March in the UK. The original model, which is already available at the moment goes by the name of GT-i9020, and features a SuperAMOLED screen. The GT-i9023 is rumoured to have a Super Clear LCD screen instead. The main difference between the two screen types is largely dependent on taste – with the GT-i9023 expected to be slightly cheaper.

Reboot bug Nexus S almost fixed

Google has announced that things are moving forward with respect to the random-reboot bug, of which Nexus S and Android Gingerbread suffer from. If appears to all go wel within the next two weeks with an OTA (Over-The-Air) update to Android fixing this problem. So for those who already have a Nexus S and are suffering from this issue there is still some biting left, but this issue is to be resolved.

Samsung Nexus S hack; writing your own tags

Despite the fact that writing tags is an essential part to make NFC work, it should help make NFC really a useful facility when it would be enabled by default in Google Nexus S. It was already known that Google is likely to get this function activated at a later stage, but a group of Argentine Hackers found it unnecessary to wait for this moment. And so, now it is now possible to activate the function of the Nexus S’ NFC on their own. More information can be found on YouTube among others.

Very shortly, however, you can expect the next update to Android 2.3.2 – which offers a number of minor fixes, and the long-awaited fix, preventing your phone sending an occasional message to the wrong number…

New model of the Google Nexus S?!

Just recently we reported on a possible European Samsung Nexus S that may come loaded with Android 2.4. But now a similar model has passed the FCC bureaus, going by the name Samsung GT-i9023 (the original Nexus S being GT-i9020). What this device is all about is the topic of hot debates right now. Some have suggested it may be some 4G/HSPA+ version of the Nexus S, or perhaps it is a more custom made ‘Samsung’ Nexus. Although it is exciting to think of a Nexus S with Android 2.4 – which just might be the (not so) much anticipated Android IceCream version – the facts remain unknown.
